Definitely Not A Drinking Game (2022)

The app you need to break the ice.

When you're a programmer, any board game can be free, if you believe in it hard enough. Right?

Challenges

  • 1
Time pressure: the MVP needed to be ready for the next morning's barbecue.
  • 2
Reliability: the game had to be drunk-proof.

Solutions

  • 1
Frontend-only application: A frontend-only application was created in one sleepless night, and feedback and requests were collected from (drunk) users
  • 2
localStorage implementation: The entire application relies on localStorage, and implements labels to facilitate the use of game settings.

Project Status

The project is in production on Netlify and gets dusted off two or three times a year, to play with friends and family.
This was my first project that received almost immediate user feedback and led to substantial changes. I interfaced for the first time with the concept of accessibility, since some of my friends have shaky hands and couldn't press the smaller buttons. This led me to learn how to properly use labels.
For now I don't feel the need to touch the code, although it's certainly improvable: part of its charm is the fact that it was created in less than twelve hours! 😎
